Ways to Leave a Legacy

You do not have to be wealthy to leave a legacy and a gift of any size will help CARE make a significant Christian different to our society. There are several ways to remember CARE in your Will and choosing how to make your gift is an important decision.

Residuary legacy

A gift of the remainder or a certain percentage of your estate after all other legacies have been made and all debts, liabilities and taxes paid.  A residuary gift keeps up with inflation and is an effective way to divide the amount you leave between a number of people and charities that are important to you.

Pecuniary legacy

A gift of a specified sum of money.  It is important to bear in mind that over time its value will be gradually reduced by inflation.  For example, a gift of £250 will be worth much less in 30 years time than it is today.

Specific legacy

A particular named item that is left as a gift; for example, a book collection, jewellery or a painting.

Reversionary legacy

A reversionary gift allows you to provide for your family first, and later on benefit charities of your choosing.  It involves leaving assets to a chosen beneficiary to use during their lifetime, with the whole or a portion reverting to someone else or to a charity on their death.
